6 March 2011

I got my license at the age of 17 and finally at the age of 40+ , I got my own car…this Yellow VW Polo made and produced by ME! And… the fun part is… it’s edible and did not cost me a fortune.
After hours of stacking, trimming and decorating, TaDaaaa…here is my first car:

Spidey the Spider

6 January 2011

"Look!!!! The Spiderman is tired...he is sleeping on the cake. Hmm...I guess everybody needs a break. But Spidey, don't finish the cake okay! Its for Zafeer's third birthday."

"Psst...Zafeer, you can eat the Spiderman...well, technically. I made it from gum-paste...but he is a bit 'chunky'. Ate lots of cakes, perhaps."

Under the Sea

21 March 2010

When Mazura asked for an Ocean theme cake, with edible sea creatures...images of the cake flashes through my mind. I kind of already thinking how to go about making the cake while talking to her on the phone....got really excited to start this project. This is something I haven't attempted before but my heart tells me I can do it. Got some ideas from the net too. Here it is...everything is edible except the trees.Every details are handcrafted from fondant. The cake is covered with butter cream & the sand are from crushed digestive biscuits. They love it! I love it! What about you?!

Eye Opener

Continuation from MY FIRST CAKE...April 2007....
The fondant decoration class at Bagus has indeed boost my confidence & I yearn for more...my luck BAGUS Taman Permata offered 'Buttercream Decoration' workshop in ..... We were taught 4 different flowers by Chef Eugene. Roses, Lily, Sunflower and Iris. After practising & perfecting the skills, we were asked to decorate our own cake. I chosed to do Iris...the easiest one for me. This is the outcome:

What do you think? Need some lesson in color combination though!
The best part is I met this lady who has been doing cakes from home.Chatting with her, makes me think,"If she can do it, so can I!" She was kind enough to give me her brochures & some encouragement. So that's where I start!

Red, Red Strawberries

4 December 2009

Yati's order for a gathering at her home, two 10'' Victoria Sandwich & one 10'' Moist Chocolate cake.
Normally, for decoration on Victoria sandwich, I use strawberries, or strawberries & kiwi but this time I tried with blueberries & strawberries. Personally, I like the ones with kiwis & strawberries...red & green color combination...looks inviting. What about you?

Me...teaching?

23 & 24 November 2009

Me...teaching? Yep...just for my husband's two nieces, Hanis & Syahirah. I taught them baking & decorating. Will I do it again? Yep...but first, I'm giving myself time to improve my skills...baking, decorating & teaching.

First day,we made sponge cakes, topped with fresh cream & decorated with cartoon designs filled with colored piping gel.

Second day, we made butter cake, topped with buttercream with cartoon decoration filled with colored buttercream. And also, some cupcakes.

Hey girls, I am expecting a birthday cake from you...you need the practice anyway.

Back to Class 2

7 November 2009

In midst of baking & decorating, 'magically' I can still find time to continue with Wilton Method Cake Decorating Course 2 (Flowers & Borders). It was for about 3 hours for four consecutive Saturdays. Besides I get to meet friends...only 5 of us left from the first course.
These are what we did...clockwise from the top left hand corner : daffodils, Wilton rose, swirl rose, daisy, faces, shell borders, primrose, pansy, apple blossom, rose bud, chrysanthemum, violet, weaving & another shell border. Amazing...all royal icing flowers.

And what's more amazing is that we had to complete a flower basket cake for the final class, Nov 7. Look at all beautiful flower baskets... aaaaa, too pretty to eat.

Next...Course 3 ( Fondant & Tiered Cakes)

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Hello Studio 43 friends!

1 November 2009

I organized a small reunion for all my architecture friends, NCUK/ITM 1989-1990 (hmm...wonder if I get the year right...it was soooo long ago) at my house. Quite a number showed up..it was fun to see each other again.
As at any gathering, there're  food, food & food! My husband was in charge of the main table...soup with noodle / bread, sandwiches, vegetable salads & many more. Me...the dessert table of course!

I made Marble Cheese Cake, Victorian Sandwich ,Moist Chocolate cake & un-iced mini cupcakes. The kids had a lovely time decorating them with buttercream & a variety of colored sprinkles.

Back to Class 1

I went to Wilton Method Cake Decorating Course 1 in June/July,conducted by WMI Nahdzah at Yummie Bangi. Just for 2 hours for 4 Saturdays... to improve my skills & to learn some new ones.
Gained a lot...both knowledge & friends.

27 June 2009
Just introduction & some demonstration by the WMI. Also getting to know Wilton products as we are going to use them in the upcoming classes.

4 July 2009
We learned pattern transfer & decorating using buttercream stars. Look at my rainbow!!!

11 July 2009

Wilton Roses...look, the centre rose is done by my WMI & the rest is my effort. Spot the difference? At least they look like roses. Hmm...need more practice!

We also learned some new techniques & then decorated some cupcakes. Everyone had a wonderful time turning their plain cupcakes into beautiful ones. We even make clowns!

18 July 2009
Final Class! Our turn to show the skills gained the last three Saturdays. This is what I came up with..."Rose Garden".

The "graduates" with WMI Nahdzah & our creations. Look at all the proud faces!

Looking forward to next courses...2 & 3.
